The community midwives attend each Tuesday. A patient can be referred to the doctor if the midwife feels this is necessary. Each of the doctors attend maternity patients on alternative weeks. For further information see the Ante-Natal Care tab above.
Baby/Pre school Clinics
Friday 9am—10. 30am
This is attended by the practice Doctors.
Well woman clinic
Dr Judith O’Kane and the practice nurse provide cervical screening . In addition female patients are taught how to carry out breast examination, given information on pre-conception, contraceptive methods and HRT management.
On alternative weeks Dr O Kane and the nurse carry out a Family Planning Clinic. You must have a prior consultation with Dr O Kane before any Family planning procedure is provided.
If you cannot attend for Cervical Screening during the Clinics you may speak to the Practice Nurses to arrange a more suitable time.
This service is provided by the local hospital, Altnagelvin Area Hospital Breast Screening Unit. Women aged between 50-64years are offered mammograms (Breast screening x-ray) every three years. The Practice policy is to encourage every woman to avail of this service. Should you have any concerns you may discuss these with either Dr Judith O’Kane or either of o two Practice Nurses.
CHD & Stroke Clinic (Well Person Clinic)
In Northern Ireland we have one of the highest rates of coronary heart disease in Europe.
Doctors all over the world agree that a lot of Coronary heart disease could be prevented by better health care of the individual and by cultivating a more healthy lifestyle.
Practice Nurse conducts this clinic on a weekly basis and provides all aspects of general health care and screening by inviting patients to have their Blood Pressure, weight, cholesterol checked which all can contribute to this disease.
Asthma and COPD Clinic (Well Person Clinic)
Dr Carroll and the Practice Nurse monitors our patients who have been diagnosed with Asthma or COPD. We recall patients at regular intervals and will carry out Spironmetry testing, assess inhaler techniques and give advise on management of these diseases.
Referral to this service is by the GP. (in-house counselling service)
